Investment Philosophy

  • My investment career has been focused on portfolio strategy, analyzing the economy and financial markets from a top-down perspective, while using various databases and equity quant systems for stock selection, with an emphasis on growth stocks.

  • Based on years of investment experience, I believe the most effective way to make investment decisions is with a comprehensive research process, covering three broad areas:
    • Global macro events (political and economic developments)
    • Company fundamentals (earnings, earnings estimate revisions, etc.)
    • A technical overlay (a technical analysis component)

  • By consistently monitoring developments in all these areas, we can view the whole mosaic of economic and market activity as events unfold, and put together the pieces of the puzzle in a coordinated way.

  • This enables us to recognize situations in which it would be prudent to take action in portfolio management, such as making changes regarding asset allocation, sector weights, and / or stock selection.
  • I have written a series of white papers showing examples of how this type of analysis can be very effective

  • Please see the other sections of this blog for more detail.  The section “Why Unique and Valuable” contains further discussion of investment philosophy.

  • The section “Excerpts from White Papers contains case studies of analyzing the market and making investment decisions.
